The Ins and Outs of Moving.

Hello, Infinite community! As your trusted partner in property management, we at Infinite are constantly striving to make your rental experience as smooth and efficient as possible. Today, we want to provide some practical move-in and move-out tips for tenants. A well-planned move can save you a lot of time, effort, and potential disputes down the line. Let’s dive in!

Move-In Tips: Settling In With Confidence

  1. Documentation is Key: Upon moving in, conduct a thorough walk-through of the property. Take note of any existing damages and make sure to document them with photos. This will serve as your baseline and can be useful to avoid disputes when you eventually move out.
  2. Know Your Lease: Read your lease agreement carefully. Make sure you understand all the terms and conditions, such as your responsibilities for maintenance, restrictions on property use, and the procedure for requesting repairs.
  3. Set Up Utilities: Ensure all required utilities are working and transferred to your name. This typically includes electricity, water, gas, and internet.
  4. Change Your Address: Update your address with all necessary parties, such as your employer, bank, and postal services. Don't forget to inform your friends and family!
  5. Get to Know Your Neighborhood: Explore your surroundings. Locate the nearest grocery stores, pharmacies, hospitals, and public transportation.

Move-Out Tips: Departing With Ease

  1. Give Notice: Always abide by your lease agreement when planning your move-out date. Typically, you must provide your landlord with a written notice 30 to 60 days in advance.
  2. Clean Thoroughly: Leave the property as you found it. Deep clean every room, including the kitchen and bathroom. This can include tasks like vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and clearing out your belongings.
  3. Repair and Replace: Fix any damage that occurred during your tenancy, or prepare to have the cost deducted from your security deposit. Items including filling nail holes, repainting walls, or replacing broken fixtures require management approval.
  4. Return Keys and Fobs: Arrange to return all keys, fobs, and parking passes to your landlord or property manager. Failure to do so may result in additional charges.
  5. Initial Move-Out Walk-Through: Request a final walk-through with your landlord. This is your opportunity to discuss any potential deductions from your security deposit and to avoid any surprises.
  6. Forward Your Mail: Don't forget to set up mail forwarding with the postal service to your new address.
